Congratulations to America and the 44th President Obama

THERE have been moments in the past months while monitoring the progress of the democratic battle for nomination between Obama and Hillary Clinton that I have been pessimistic about the process of election.

However, today after Obama's victory for nomination has been sealed, I began to understand that beneath all that bravado that sometimes is erroneously projected to outsiders, lies a hidden strength that personifies America as a nation of great souls.

Yes, it has been a hard fought battle by Obama and Hillary but victory goes to the people of America. Twenty years ago, it would have been almost unthinkable for any African-American to aspire to occupy the Oval Office.

Today in 2008, Barack Obama has broken all the stereotyped notions of the Land of Milk and Honey by peoples living on the opposite sides of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

I am glad that America has taken this brave step forward. If foreigners had misgivings about US involvement in Iraq, Somalia, and other troubled spots around the world, it is because America as a superpower had not always been able to do its best under the worst circumstances.

Nevertheless it tries despite the adverse publicity and its noble intentions. The lives of its own people is its gift to the rest of the world. I can't speak for the other nations, so I will speak for myself.

I for one appreciate the trouble taken by US to lay down the lives of its own men and women in foreign lands so that others may live in freedom. Time will soon eclipse all sad and bad memories of engagements abroard but the fallen soldiers symbolic of what is good about America will not be forgotten. It cannot be.

We who live so far away of the US shores have always been appreciative of the fact that whenever a major natural disaster strikes, US is constantly among the first to extend a helping hand.

Sometimes we forget our manners. In our sorrow and our grief, we forget to thank our benefactors and our rescuers, many of whom wear the US flag on their lapels and uniforms.

But as a person from a land not unaccustomed to the US Peace Corps, let me say with pride as well as with humility that all the good America has done all over the world and over the decades have not been forgotten.

One day when America needs help from the rest of the world, I am sure there will be many among us who will jump at the opportunity to help an old friend.

Once again, congratulations America!

Fox in Bollywood venture with Star

By Matthew Garrahan in Los Angeles

Published: October 4 2008 03:00 | Last updated: October 4 2008 03:00

Twentieth Century Fox has struck a deal with one of Indian cinema's most successful producers, signalling Hollywood's willingness to reach new audiences by investing in international film production.

The News Corporation-owned studio has formed Fox Star Studios with its sister company, Star, the Asian broadcaster.

Fox Star has signed a multi-film deal with Vipul Amrutlal Shah, producer of several Bollywood hits, including Singh is Kinng and Namastey London .

Under the deal, Fox Star will produce two of Mr Shah's forthcoming films with an option to make more. It comes as Hollywood studios are looking to strike deals with producers and distributors in Asia.

Walt Disney and Sony Pictures Entertainment have struck similar production deals in India and, like Fox Star, want to share in the success of local language film production.

Disney is producing a Bollywood version of its High School Musical film while Sony recently released Saawariya , its first stab at a three-hour Bollywood epic.

With growth slowing in the US film industry, Hollywood studios are looking to new markets such as India, South Korea and Russia.

"While most of the international markets tend to have Hollywood movies, increasingly a large portion of these local markets is made up of local films," Jim Gianopulos, chairman of Fox Filmed Entertainment, said.

"We felt we could make a contribution to the [local] market . . . by bringing our expertise in marketing and distribution."

Mr Shah said the deal with Fox Star gave him a chance to "create films that will appeal to audiences around the globe . . We have to partner with the best technical and creative talent while keeping the Indian soul in our films intact".

Snoop Dogg makes Bollywood drool !

BBC News, Bombay

Snoop Dogg in Singh is Kinng
Top Dogg - the rapper says: India 'get ready for me'

US rapper Snoop Dogg has made his debut in a Bollywood film which is being released on Friday.

Dogg, whose real name is Cordozar Calvin Broadus, sings and acts in a romantic comedy called Singh is Kinng.

Fusing hip hop and bhangra, Dogg appears in the film with leading Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, singing the eponymous title track.

The song has already made it to the top of the Bollywood music charts and is a hit at Indian nightclubs.

The producer of the film, Vipul Shah, told the BBC that Akshay Kumar, the star of the film, and his friends approached Dogg to sing and act in the $11m film.

"When Dogg was satisfied with the scale of the film, he agreed to be a part of it. The song was filmed with his sensibility and he had creative control," he said.

Mr Shah said the song cost $475,000 to record and film.

Controversial

Wearing a tradition Indian turban and a tunic, Dogg and Akshay Kumar were filmed for the song in Chicago.

In the track, Dogg sings: "This is Snoop Dogg/Singh is the king/This is the thing."

The words in the song are a combination of English, Hindi and Punjabi language lyrics and rap.

The rapper's introduction to the song gives an indication.

He says: "Yo, what up. This Big Snoop Dogg. Represent the Punjabi. Aye ya, hit em with this."

Last year, Dogg was honoured at the fourth annual VH1 hip-hop awards show in New York for his musical achievements.

He was also arrested at Bob Hope Airport in California on suspicion of carrying marijuana.

Dogg was later charged with gun possession after police found a firearm at his home.

The rapper pleaded no contest to gun and drugs charges and received five years probation and 800 hours community service.

Snoop Dogg says he now plans to tour India.

"Snoop Dogg has a lot of fans in India and I love 'em right back," he said. "Get ready for me."

Shilpa Shetty news

The second season of Bigg Boss is all set to go on air from August-end on the newly launched channel, Colors. The channel, we hear, has roped in Big Brother winner Shilpa Shetty to host the show!

Shilpa, who became a hot favourite in Britain after her Big Brother win, has replaced Arshad Warsi.

Media source said, “Shilpa has been signed on for a whopping Rs 8 crore by the production house. She is the first celeb to be finalised on the show while the participants are yet to be finalised.”

According to the source, it was not easy to get Shilpa to host the show after her brush with racial discrimination last year, and “she took her own time to decide if she wanted to be part of the show.”

The show is slated to go on air once Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi (hosted by Akshay Kumar) ends in August.

Confirming the news, Rajesh Kamat - CEO of Colors - said, “Yes, Bigg Boss - Season 2 is going to air on Colors.” However, he refused to comment on Shilpa being signed on as the host.

Gossip spells mega bucks-Bollywood addicts

By Pratibha Umashankar (Cover Story)
Juidin Bernarrd Khaleej Times Online

He commands a billion eyeballs in over 130 countries. He claims his celebrity news portal www.Hollywood.tv is currently valued at one billion US dollars. He now wants to take Dubai to the world and bring Hollywood to Dubai.

Meet Sheeraz Hasan who has built his business empire on our obsession with the rich and the famous and the infamous.

“PEOPLE WANT gossip. Fans crave for every scrap of information about stars. I merely feed the frenzy,” says Sheeraz Hasan, the suave and astute businessman. His list of contacts reads like who’s who of Hollywood. Founder and CEO of www.Hollywood.tv says he went to LA with nothing but his dreams and made it big in 18 months flat. Now he is about to launch dubai.tv and have a tie-up with a prominent television channel for a weekly show. The man with the Midas touch says, “How do we make money? Huge sponsorships. They’re already approaching us. They want a piece of the pie. We’ll splash them on our websites, on our TV show — it’s a money-spinner. What will drive the venture’s the ad revenue. When you drive along Shaikh Zayed Road, you see so many billboards. Dubai.tv will be like taking a virtual tour of Shaikh Zayed Road, but the whole world will be driving through it and looking at the ads.”

But let’s begin at the beginning. “Once upon a time….” That’s how Sheeraz’s story reads — like a fairy tale. But the proverbial once upon a time is not all that long ago. It was in 2002 that Sheeraz, tired of working at the family restaurant in London, packed his bags and left for LA. He was 28. He dreamt big. At 16, he had turned the limping family eatery into a thriving business by giving it a 24-hour Hollywood-themed avatar and named it Tinseltown Café.

Glitterati fascinated him. “I thought these stars are normal people like me. But because they’re in movies and TV, the whole world follows their every move. They wield enormous influence,” says Sheeraz.

He flew across the Pond and camped at his uncle’s house in LA.

“Day after day, I watched him glued to the telly watching Bollywood movies,” he says. “Just a flip of the channel away was Hollywood, the huge movie industry, but he was hooked on to Bollywood. Then it struck me that Bollywood was big if millions like him watched it. But I wondered why there was no Hollywood gossip or news on those channels. Here was a huge movie industry that did not talk about its twin on the other side of the world. I decided I was going to be the guy to bring them together.

“I rang up B4U office in New York and told them I had a killer idea. I got invited to their office. I was so excited, I was screaming about my new idea to the heads of B4U and Eros. I asked for a slot on TV. They asked for a pilot. For me then, a pilot was someone who flew a plane. But I convinced them that telecasting Hollywood gossip would grab more eyeballs. I appointed myself as Hollywood’s ambassador to Bollywood. I told them I’d provide them the content. Two hours later, I had a contract guaranteeing distribution and my own show called Tinseltown to be viewed by half a billion people from the Subcontinent.

“So here I was, a London-based guy of Pakistani origin wanting to do shows about Hollywood for Bollywood. I had a fabulous contract and six weeks to produce the show. Did I know anyone in Hollywood? No. I had zero knowledge of producing a TV show. I thought, Richard Branson doesn’t know how to fly a plane, but he owns Virgin Atlantic.

“Soon they had started airing ads about my exciting new show with me bringing celebrity news hot from Hollywood, and I didn’t even know where to begin.

“I called up my brother in London and told him about the video I had to shoot. He said, ‘Pagal, do you even have a camera?’ It struck me that I didn’t. I rushed to a camera store. There I bumped into an independent filmmaker. I told him my story and hired him on the spot as my cameraman and editor. I said I’d feed him chicken korma and rice as I had no money to pay. I made and sold cookies to keep myself going.

“As the deadline loomed, I got frenzied calls from B4U asking me for promos. But I had nothing. All I had was a thousand takes of me on Hollywood Boulevard saying in different poses, ‘Hi, I’m Sheeraz from Hollywood bringing you the biggest stars from Hollywood to Bollywood.’ I panicked as time ticked.”

Sheeraz then did what anyone who is as desperate as he was does. He started praying.

“I’d go to the Hollywood sign every day and pray in the shadow cast by it,” he says. “A man who had been watching me one day came up to me and asked what I’d been doing. “I told him that I was doing Namaz and then narrated my story. It was Rowland Perkins, founder of Creative Artists’ Agency, the biggest talent agency in the world. He asked me to come to his office the next day. That was when my kismet opened!”

Stars, both celestial and the Hollywood kind began to smile on Sheeraz. Thanks to Perkins’ connections and Sheeraz’s never-say-die attitude, he had shaken hands with the crème-de-la crème of Hollywood and he had his first episode ready. He had met the deadline! The programme became a huge success. Viewers had lapped it all up and were asking for more. Sheeraz Hasan had arrived!

Within weeks, he was covering film premieres, red carpet events and doing celebrity interviews. He produced and hosted over 200 episodes of his multiple-award winning programme Tinseltown TV.

Within 18 months of coming to Hollywood, Sheeraz had catapulted to fame. And on July 4, 2005, America’s Independence Day, Sheeraz launched www.Hollywood.tv.

Today he is one of the most powerful men in the media, offering paparazzi video footage and entertainment news stories to one million viewers a day through the website.

“We are today the number one celebrity portal. We also supply our content on a daily basis to CNN, Fox, ABC, NBC, CBS, AP, Reuters, Sky News, Entertainment Tonight and The Insider.

“To me, the Net and TV are one entity. The words TV and Hollywood as brands are recognised around the planet. I view domain names as real estate. So I have the hottest real estate online today," says Sheeraz.

“We give our viewers practically everything related to Hollywood. When a star moves, they are on Hollywood.tv. It’s 24x7 celebrity news. Our relationship with the huge networks, drives traffic back to the website. Hollywood.tv is worth a billion dollars.”

Thanks to the site’s in-your-face attitude and Sheeraz’s contacts, he has built a cultural bridge between the two biggest film industries in the world — Hollywood, representing 3.6 billion worldwide fans and Bollywood representing 3.8 billion worldwide fans.

“People go to websites they trust. So when you break a story you've got to be sure you are right. Your whole market value depends on it," says Sheeraz.

In 2006, Sheeraz launched his autobiography, Sheeraz the Muslim American Dream that depicted the trajectory of a remarkable success story. At 32, Sheeraz says he couldn’t ask for more. “I’ve found my soulmate in my wife Zareena. My seven-month-old daughter Yamuna means the world to me!”

Why scandal sells

Why the unhealthy interest in other people’s lives?

When you’re somebody’s fan, you are watching their movies, and get obsessed with them and want to know more about their lifestyle. That’s what’s the driving force behind all the advertising and the multi-billion dollar paparazzi celebrity industry. People like to see celebrities doing things — normal and abnormal. Both make news. It’s escapism. You forget about your own ordinary lives when you read about stars. People love to watch stars going up or down because you are the one who put them on the pedestal. So when Britney Spears trips up, people want to know all about it. What’s made Hollywood.tv so popular is because it’s not just about a celebrity walking on the red carpet looking good. We capture them in their most awkward moments — with bad hair, or collecting kids from school…. All of a sudden, people are hooked on to such news. It’s very addictive.

Why the addiction?

When people watch a movie of Shah Rukh Khan, for three hours, they are emotionally involved with the character. You expect a normal man to be a hero all the time. That doesn’t happen. So the addiction to all that goes on in their lives.

So portals like yours feed the frenzy.

I do it because the media is cutting me a cheque for a million dollars for a photograph! Why do they spend a million dollars for just one picture of Britney Spears? It’s because the consumer’s buying it. The day consumers stop buying it is the day the magazines and tabloids are not going to cut me a cheque. I’m only supplying what’s in demand. The person who goes and pays $2 for a magazine is the ultimate culprit. The second people who are responsible for feeding the frenzy are those who distribute it. I’m the last one to bear the onus — I supply the content for such magazines and channels.

Is nothing sacred? Is there no private place of your own?

There is, if you choose not to live in Los Angeles. You can work in LA, but must live away from it. Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones live in Barbados, away from the limelight.

But they are the same people who sell their wedding pictures to celebrity magazines.

But why not? Because somebody’s going to take their pictures anyway. So if not I, somebody else’ll sell the pictures to the magazines and TV.

All this is based on the premise that no one is interested in a happy marriage, but everyone’s interested in a divorce.

Oh, yes, we all love breakups, we love people who lose weight, who gain weight — that’s show business. Welcome to Hollywood!

So portals like yours are glorified peeping Toms. And everyone wants a peek at the images you capture.

Yes, but we’re in business because of the ordinary person who goes out and spends money to buy a gossip magazine. They are the people who are driving the entire Hollywood economy that generates trillions of dollars. It’s the average person on the streets who has created the global entertainment business.

A round of applause

After only 18 months of arriving in the US, Fortune Magazine, devoted a four-page spread to Sheeraz. His story was featured alongside Google founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and Bill Gates.

He was given the Hall of Fame award at the 2004 Indian Telly Awards for bringing Hollywood and Bollywood.

He was named “Hollywood Ambassador to the Middle East” at the 2004 Arabian Music awards in Dubai.

One Night Foundation named him their “Humanitarian Communicator of the Year” for his work in promoting their efforts to fight AIDS in India.

He has been appointed the Global Ambassador for Youth for Human Rights International and a special representative for Friends of the United Nations. He educates children about human rights.

At the 2005 Bollywood Awards, Sheeraz was appointed Hollywood Ambassador to Bollywood for his outstanding contribution to bridging the two largest film industries in the world. He was also given their prestigious “American Dream” award.

In response to the South-East Asia tsunami and earthquake in Pakistan, he hosted the first live telethons in the US to raise money for victims of the disasters.

Sheeraz also owns www.sports.tv, www.history.tv, www.la.tv, www.medicine.tv.

Why Dubai?

“I see the greatness the city has to offer,” says Sheeraz Hasan when asked about www.dubai.tv. “So much is happening here and I want America to know about it. I want to take Dubai to America — to the world. And I want to bring America to Dubai through the portal. Dubai inspires everyone with a vision beyond boundaries and setting global standards. And I’d like to be a part of this huge dream of Dubai. I want Americans to fall in love with Dubai. It was thanks to the sponsorship of Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim, CEO of Hydra Properties, that I came to Dubai. So many events are happening in Dubai, but I didn’t know about it till I came here. You see, Americans are not really coming to Dubai. The American market’s really not biting. It’s probably because there’s a scare about the region. The most media-savvy people in the world based in America with the biggest global networks don’t hear about what’s happening here. So I’ve created a portal that covers events here and take it to a global audience. We want to tell the average American how beautiful and safe Dubai is.

“When I’d speak to Hollywood stars about Bollywood, they’d ask me, ‘Does India have TV?’ And today, the same people go to Mukesh Ambani for funding. That shows how powerful India is and Bollywood is. And I, who am not even an Indian, have contributed to this change in perception. And I want to do the same thing for Dubai.”

Janeen presents …

JANEEN MANSOUR is all set to be the face of Dubai.tv. The American of Lebanese-Palestinian parentage is ideally suited to be the cultural ambassador between the two regions.

At 18, when she worked for Neiman Marcus, the specialty store, she had an opportunity to interact with major fashion designers. She hosted many celebrity fashion shows and fundraisers. A major in PR at UCLA, Janeen joined Tinseltown TV and later Hollywood.tv, marking the beginning of a successful professional partnership with Sheeraz Hasan. As a field reporter and producer covering Hollywood red carpet events, premiers and doing celebrity interviews, she is now ready to take on Dubai.

“The fastest way to reach the rest of the world today is through the Internet,” she says. “We are planning to cover all the events happening in Dubai — be it celebrity and entertainment, real estate-based news or business news in general. We’ll have it on Dubai.tv within 30 minutes. Not just Dubai, but the UAE and the region will be promoted around the world. We’ll cover anything newsworthy.

“We’ll also have a half an hour weekly show of all that’s happened in the region. It’ll be telecast from December, which I’ll be hosting. We’ll announce our media associates as soon as it’s a done deal.”

She says it’s not going to be a paparazzi website and show. “This is going to be different. We’ll not be hiding behind trees to capture celebrities. We are planning one-on-one interviews with CEOs and business personalities here.

“We’ll also have the top 10 picks of the week — the best hotels, restaurants, new products, fashion shows, opening of malls…. Because of our strong presence in Hollywood, we’ll bring the latest news from there too — the Oscars, the Grammies….. And the website will be up to the minute.”

Dubai.tv and the show will endorse books, a la Oprah Winfrey Show. “We’ll be promoting new writers,” says Janeen. “Also, if you have any new products, new music or ideas, come to us. If I’m convinced it’s good, I’ll endorse it.

“The website has already had a soft launch and is up and running. But we’re planning a huge official launch with parties for celebrities in LA and Dubai.”

Janeen has set up shop here. “Dubai’s going to be my home,” she says with a huge smile. The relationship we have with stars and the reputation we have built will help us replicate our success here.”

Akshay seeing Red !

18 Jul 2008, 0000 hrs IST, MARK MANUEL ,TNN

Akshay Kumar, who is shooting with Sylvester Stallone on the sets of Sajid Nadiadwalla’s Kambhakt Ishq at Universal Studios, LA, is in a dangerous mood .

An Indian television news channel ran a story on the action star Tuesday night hinting at rumours that Akshay was currently seeing his personal fitness trainer, a foreigner by the name of Jennifer.

The channel alleged that the two had met and got close during the shooting of Namastey London. And that Akshay later recommended Jennifer to director Vipul Shah, who utilised her training expertise in the film. Now, the channel claimed, after running through the many women (‘Queens’, it said) who had reportedly shared space in Akshay’s life, Jennifer and the Bollywood khiladi were often spotted at five star coffee shops in Mumbai.

Akshay spoke exclusively, and angrily, to BT from LA when asked to comment on the allegations: “What can I say... I applaud those back-stabbing, insecure people that try and ruin me... I’d never knight them, but I’d definitely hire them for Friday night entertainment, because, boy, they make me laugh! Here we are, me, my wife and all my apparent ‘Queens’ half-way round the world laughing at their attempt to stab me...”
By ‘their’, whom did Akshay mean? His many detractors in Bollywood? The actor’s response, “I could have bet my last rupee that someone out there was going to concoct some kind of filthy dirt and try and throw it my way...” The reason being? “I have a huge big blockbuster releasing soon, and I swear, I only hear crap like this when certain people feel threatened by me and my work.”

Refusing to take names, but acknowledging that “it’s a dog eat dog world” in Bollywood and that he had no time for “petty playground digs”, the fighting star challenged, “Come on, let’s fight like men and leave the ladies out of it... It amazes me how low some of those dogs will go when they feel I’m too hot for them professionally.” But, apparently, wife Twinkle and he are unaffected by the rumours in LA, “In fact we are living it up,” Akshay revealed. And no doubt, going by his fanatical fitness regime, Jennifer is with them as well.

Spielberg looks to Bollywood India for cash !

International Herald Tribune
Spielberg looks to Bollywood for cash
By Michael Cieply and Brooks Barnes
Wednesday, June 18, 2008

LOS ANGELES: Steven Spielberg and other top executives at DreamWorks SKG may get a boost from an ambitious Bollywood player, but their planned alliance could be less grandiose than dreams past.

After a drawn-out tussle with the boutique film studio's owner, Paramount Pictures, one filled with perceived slights over respect and credit, Spielberg and his partner, David Geffen, are now in discussions with Reliance Big Entertainment of India about a cash infusion of $500 million to $600 million, say several executives briefed on the negotiations.

That investment, and access to a revolving credit line of about $400 million, would allow them to split from Paramount, a unit of Viacom, and make about six major movies a year. Yet for all the turmoil, they could conceivably remain in business with Paramount, by having it distribute their movies.

Any deal is still at an early stage, these people cautioned, and it may be several weeks before an agreement is signed, if at all. The talks were first reported by The Wall Street Journal.

While $500 million is not a lot of money in Hollywood, executives briefed on the negotiations said the commitment was favorable to the DreamWorks team. Reliance, without gaining much control over the enterprise, would be paying for a grand introduction to the United States movie business.

"Why the Indians? It is all about terms," said one of the executives who had been briefed. "These people are willing to pay a lot of money for little more than the right to go sit at a premiere with Steven Spielberg."

The Reliance deal being discussed would create an operation on a par with DreamWorks's activity since Viacom bought the company for $1.6 billion in 2005, while stopping short of the company's peak activity during its 11 years as an independent. But part of Geffen's strategy, said the executives, is to use a possible Reliance deal to draw additional investor interest, which in turn could pressure Reliance to put more money on the table.

A heftier investment would give the DreamWorks principals more insulation against the hazards of an industry accomplished at separating investors from their dollars.

DreamWorks itself is expected to remain part of Viacom. But the unit's top executives — including Geffen, 65, Spielberg, 61, and the chief executive, Stacey Snider, 47 — would be free to leave under their contractual arrangements.

DreamWorks began in 1994, backed by more than $700 million from Paul Allen, a founder of Microsoft, who remained an investor for over a decade. The studio, complete with an animation division, was heralded as the first true challenger to the major studios in decades. But it was slow to release its first movie — "The Peacemaker," which did not arrive until 1997 — and its slate was uneven. "Saving Private Ryan" and "Gladiator" were both critical and box-office successes, but other movies, like "The Mexican" and "The Island," fizzled on both fronts.

For Spielberg and friends, starting anew brings perils of its own. Their company would begin life with great cachet, but little income. Without a steady income from a film library, and perhaps without unfettered access to the dozens of scripts, books and other development properties they sold to Paramount, their new company would not start generating meaningful income for a couple of years.

Their money would be quickly depleted if their films in the next year or two did not match the strong performance of last year's crop, which included "Transformers" and "Norbit." Moreover, the new company could well end up looking like a smaller version of its predecessor, especially if its executives, who have worked in Spielberg's adobe-style quarters on the Universal lot, were to continue distributing through Paramount.

The DreamWorks' principals have been searching at least a year for a cash infusion that might allow them to adjust or end their relationship with Paramount. One person briefed on the team's plans said the new company was expected eventually to distribute its wholly financed films through a studio for a fee, though no talks on such a deal are under way. A DreamWorks spokesman declined to comment on the financing. Paramount also declined to comment.

DreamWorks has provided Paramount with some of its most successful recent movies. The separately owned DreamWorks Animation studio, under its chief executive Jeffrey Katzenberg, distributes animated films like "Kung Fu Panda" through Paramount under a deal that was distinct from the purchase of the live film operation.

Yet Geffen and his colleagues have chafed from the beginning at their relations with Brad Grey, the Paramount chairman, whom they tended to regard more as their partner than boss. There was a big tiff over how much authority Snider should have. And Geffen was miffed at what he saw as Grey's move to take credit for DreamWorks's "Dreamgirls" at industry screenings in New York and Los Angeles.

As much as it could hurt Paramount to lose the principals behind a string of hits, any blow would be softened by its status as the top studio this year, mainly because of Marvel Entertainment's "Iron Man," and of course, Spielberg's "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull." Paramount also controls the rights to the coming "Transformers" sequel.

A deal between Reliance Entertainment and the DreamWorks principals would represent the first significant capital flow from fast-growing emerging markets into Hollywood. The president of Reliance Big Entertainment, Rajesh Sawhney, would not comment on the negotiations, but in a telephone interview Wednesday, he did discuss the company's plans to streamline the moviemaking process in Hollywood.

Reliance Big Entertainment hopes to help bring a "new sensibility" to Hollywood and other established markets, he said. In mature media markets "the bureaucracy of the system takes over," he said, and talent, in the form of directors and producers, often "gets lost." Reliance Big Entertainment will "try to engage directly with the talent, to create the biggest value," he said.

Reliance Big Entertainment, part of the Reliance ADA Group, said in May that it would finance films by production companies run by eight of Hollywood's biggest stars, including George Clooney and Tom Hanks. These deals, brokered by Creative Artists Agency, would give the producers full creative freedom, Reliance said at the time. Thirty projects are being discussed, with 8 to 10 expected to begin in the next two years.

Reliance expects overall revenue from the films to be about $1 billion.

"At the core of all this is making the movies that the talent wants to make," Sawhney said about the company's Hollywood plans.

Beware of GoldQuest or QuestNet-Schemes

Recently I have been approached by some of my close friends to join GoldQuest(also known as Questnet). GoldQuest is yet another multi-level marketing scheme. GoldQuest/ QuestNet operate under the name “QuestNet LTD” co. ref no. “993949-P”. It works onthe principle of Pyramid Scheme. A pyramid scheme is a non-sustainable business model that involves the exchange of money primarily for enrolling other people into the scheme. Pyramid schemes are illegal in many countries, including the United States, Great Britain, France, Canada, Malaysia, Norway, Australia, New Zealand, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Iran. Normally, 99.99% of the people lost their money in any MLM or pyramid scheme.

First see the dictionary of QuestNet ::

According to the dictionary of Quest members world is divided into two types of people, one is Prospect and other is IR (Independent Representative).

C.A.P. stands for Contacts, Appointments and Presentations. This will serve as “tracker” when they start in the business and treat each day as a business day. They keep with them, a list of all the names that they will call or contact, all the schedules appointments for the day and planned business presentations held during the day. For weekend, they have some special plans, that is called weekend plan.

Inviting is the first and one of the most important skills you will need to master in order to be successful in this business. Master the art if inviting with this following techniques
a) curiosity is the key to inviting, create one and not satisfy it. (DO)
b) It’s a major no-no to present the business over the phone. (DON’T)
c) The members always review the names in their memory builder. (DO)
d) When contacting the prospects, they behave as if they are not soliciting but offering an opportunity to discover a business idea that could literally change the life of the prospect. (DO)

Presenting
The information packet of Quest Members normally contain
a) Company Profile and then MLM AND RM.
b) Business Model
c) Company brochures.
d) Teamwork all over INDIA (how they are working)
e) Fake Cheques.

Follow Up:
Most people are not ready to commit instantly or just after one meeting. Actually it is difficult to make some people fool easily . So follow-up comes next. At this time, all the quest members talk with that person and go over with any questions that he might have. In this follow up, the members act like Hollywood actors and show that they are very happy, making so much money etc.

What these fraud quest members do to make their friends fool ::

* They never explain the business to anybody by them self before going through the training session and getting sufficient experience. Normally in 2-3 months, they get full experience in cheating persons so after loaded with all the guns they target their innocent friends.
* Normally they do not approach their friend and tell him everything about Quest. They only tell that they are into an business and earning. They try to make their friend curious about what business they are into. What business, no clue. They show their friend as if they are earning a lot and happy with how the business is going. Then when the innocent person insists a lot, then they will tell him to come and discuss the business. Remember, they never tell anything like its networking, its quest. Just they use the word BUSINESS. That is it. Their aim is to get the presentation done. The presentation is actually a mind was session.
* They will show full confidence on the system and the team work is excellent. But normally it will be all fake, you would know all these things after becoming member of the QuestNet.
* When the friend insists on telling what business they are doing, they ask him to meet them and discuss the business along with their business associates. They will never use the word presentation. These day, these cheaters are using the word “meeting” for this.
* When friend might ask you that is it networking. They Say NO. They tell him its not network marketing and they are not selling toothpaste and all (Actually Amway is competitor of QuestNet in this business). They are doing a business and not salesman job. They tell him that if he is interested then come for a meeting. They show as if they are least bothered if he does not turn up. But you know all these things when you will become members. Normally they spend many days and nights for a single person and try to act that they don’t care.
* When after all frauds and lies friend becomes ready to come for a meeting, they tell him that the guy with whom he would be meeting a guy who is master of the business. He has earned this this amount (all false data, full of lies, they never give the correct data). The Quest members call this method of attracting the attention of the friend as “Edification”
* After the presentation Follow up takes place. It is the most important thing in the business of making people fool. As soon as the presentation is done, they Quest members ask their friend “CHALE LOGIN KARNE”. If the innocent friend says I would think, would ask mummy, would ask friends, etc., then these Quest members try everything to get those things out of his mind.

What these people will tell when the friend will talk about money problem ::

• Money problem : Arrange 15-20k and then take 10-15 from your friends. Or else shop from friends credit card and then apply for a loan and give back. I also did the same. What u think, did I had 30k with me when I joined. I also had the same case but I managed.
• A and B problem : Everyone is so helpful and we would definitely get our common friends under you. If you wont grow, do u think I would grow. So I would have to help u. I have no other option. Rest you’re my friend, do you think I would have contacted you just for your 30k. You have such a good friend circle and I want that all of them should come under you only.
• My friends would never join : When we both have joined all others will also join. Its just a matter of how the things are explained to them. If I would have told you about the business in 10 mins, about 3 left 3 right 11.5k and 30k investment, you would have also not listened to me. But one should get the clear picture and then only, one would join. So its better that you don’t discuss the business before you get the do’s and dont’s session or else you would spoil your own business.
• Would ask my parents, brothers, sisters, friends : Don’t tell about the business to anyone. You would just misguide them. What u would tell. You got the clear picture in 1.5 hrs and what u think u can tell your friends and relatives in 15 or maximum ½ hr. Its just not possible. Its better you don’t ask them. I can tell their response , i.e a BIG NO. Network marketing has got a very negative image because of Amway and all…ml concepts.
• I would tell them nicely that its not ml and very good business model : What u will tell. Then tell him the flaws. Your relatives and friends would ask for cheques and all. I have got a personal experience.
• I would think and tell You in two days. If you would think in that sense u can never succeed in any business. If u want to open a restaurant, u first hire cooks and all. You don’t go out for customers first and then cook the food. Anyways, it is your personal wish, if u would contact anyone u would spoil your own business. I would advice you to start with the business right now and have your do’s and don’ts session and start with the business. If you still want to think, you can but don’t discuss or try to take advice from anyone because you would get a negative reply only. That is my personal experience.
For knowing more about this company I searched on Google. The search results were really alarming which I want to share with you.

CHENNAI AUG. 21. With the arrest of Goldquest officials in Chennai, where the company’s India headquarters is located, police claimed to have exposed yet another alleged money circulation racket. Over 50 members have filed complaints stating that the company owed around Rs 12 lakhs to them. The arrested persons include Pushpam, a Malaysian citizen of Indian origin and company managing director, Joseph Augustine, accounts executive, and Pushpendra Kumar Shukla, public relations officer.

Gold Quest is illegal in Srilanka07may16wanted.gif. — GoldQuest, the controversial network marketing scheme, is now illegal in Sri Lanka after its scam drained US$ 15 million in foreign exchange from the country, the Central Bank said Friday.

The Questnet’s MD and his associate have been issued a red alert notice by Interpol and have been arrested by Indonesian police.

If you try to see the details of quest.net domain name through viewwhois. There is no contact information, everything is encrypted. If this is honest company then why they are not showing their identity.

There is a company called Gold Quest chain marketing. One of my friend took me to their office without giving any prior information. There 10 members put e in a closed room and forced to take thier product membership. For this I was asked to pay 30,000Rs. and 450Rs. registration charges. They claimed that if I can get 2 more members I will be paid some bonus amount and as the chain will grow I will be getting more bonus. When I refused to take the membership, they harrassed me for about 4 hours. I was able to escape from there anyhow.

TEHRAN, Oct. 26–Judiciary Spokesman Jamal Karimi-Rad said Wednesday the Hong Kong-based GoldQuest company has agreed to pay compensations to the government and the people, ISNA reported.
Karimi-Rad added that the company, which has representatives in Iran, has agreed to compensate following the measures of judiciary, which labeled their activities ‘fraudulent’.
Asked if any organization had authorized the company to print coins with Imam Khomeini’s picture on it, Karimi-Rad said the company has not received any authorization and the Center for Publishing Imam’s Works has filed a complaint.
The company offered gold coins and other valuable items via the net, promising the buyers hefty profits in a short period. The government announced that their activities were damaging the economy by causing an outflow of capital.
Subsequently, the judiciary launched an investigation into the case, saying their activities were illegal. Later, a group carrying coins into the country was arrested upon arrival and the coins were found to be counterfeit.

GoldQuest products are collectors items and will show rapid price appreciation.Or so they told their unfortunate victims, claiming 30% or more appreciation for their Princess Diana ??Coin?? The truth, as it is often happens, appears rather less palatable, as an advertisement on ebay testifies. ??Goldquest gentlemens numismatic watch / leather box. Worth P34,000.00. Will sacrifice sale for P23,000.00. Will ship in philippines??. The buyer was trying to sell it for 30% LESS than he paid for it. However, to be doubly certain of a sale, the starting price on the auction was set at P19,500, a little more than half its purchase price. The valuable ?numismatic watch? received no bids.

Now, he knows , its time to let you know about the actual game plan. He asks you, if you possess a credit card. If you have already, he advises you to apply for two more. (after all he is your friend and he would never want you to run after him for money). So once the deadline for one credit card approaches, simply transfer the amount to another card. Sounds so easy isnt it? So he already wants you to start cheating. At this point you cant think that even you are on the verge of being cheated.
He then tells you about the investment. He wants you to buy his product for Rs 32000/- . Which includes a Gold coin and a silver one too. . As said by him, “Once you make the payment, you become a member and you are ready to start your own business. And if you are not interested in the coin , you put a post on ebay, you can literally have an auction and the price you can get is upto Rs 40000/- .
You Pay the money!! and its over. You get the coins, now play with them. Try putting them up on ebay and find me one single man who paid more than Rs 8000/- for that.
Me and my friends have suffered from this. Just to warn you about that. the real picture is quite different than they actually present it in front of us.
I request you to learn to say No!! . Dont get pusshed out of the limits. Just say No!

Once again I would like to reiterate

Quest.net OR Goldquest OR Questnet is a big Fraud and Scam. Please stay away from it. It will ruin you, your friends and your country. Thirty thousand or 800$ is not a big sum for me but the main point is that Shayam, Ravi, Ashmit and Deepak have lost their good friend. I will never trust these people in this life. Read this BBC report: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/3641100.stm

The report clearly mentions how the goldquest ruined Sri Lanka and their President had to issue a warning. The company is banned in Sri Lanka since then.

Big Finanical loss for the country :: Try to understand this, You pay 800 USD for a 200 USD coin. That means 600 USD goes out of your country . Now, you get commission for every new member. Which means for every new member, 600 USD goes out of your country. Assuming, there are say 100,000 members. Which means 600,00,000 USD go out of your country. This is what creates the economic problem for the country.

Don’t become a victim. Protect other innocent people from this fraud and scam. Please don’t ruin your family and friends. Don’t even attend the quest presentations and seminars.

Therefor I request all Indians not to join this company, this company is draining foreign exchange from our country without doing any development and invest. IT Professionals are soft targets so Beware !!!

Remember Wealth is only gained through honest and hard work, so LIVE WITH IT !

BILL OF RIGHTS ( ENVIRVOMENT )

Free Tibet Now ! UNITE FOR HUMAN RIGHTS

Why should anyone, especially you, care about Tibet?

Until 1949, Tibet was an independent Buddhist nation in the Himalayas which had little contact with the rest of the world. It existed as a rich cultural storehouse of the Mahayana and Vajrayana teachings of Buddhism. Religion was a unifying theme among the Tibetans -- as was their own language, literature, art, and world view developed by living at high altitudes, under harsh conditions, in a balance with their environment.

The Dalai Lama, an individual said to be an incarnation of the Buddha of Compassion, had been both the political and spiritual leader of the country. The current Dalai Lama (the 14th) was only 24 years old when this all came to an end in 1959. The Communist Chinese invasion in 1950 led to years of turmoil, that culminated in the complete overthrow of the Tibetan Government and the self-imposed exile of the Dalai Lama and 100,000 Tibetans in 1959.

Since that time over a million Tibetans have been killed. With the Chinese policy of resettlement of Chinese to Tibet, Tibetans have become a minority in their own country. Chinese is the official language. Compared to pre-1959 levels, only 1/20 monks are still allowed to practice, under the government's watch. Up to 6,000 monasteries and shrines have been destroyed. Famines have appeared for the first time in recorded history, natural resources are devastated, and wildlife depleted to extinction. Tibetan culture comes close to being eradicated there.

Peaceful demonstrations/protests/speech/writings by nuns, monks, and Tibetan laypeople have resulted in deaths and thousands of arrests. These political prisoners are tortured and held in sub-standard conditions, with little hope of justice. Unless we can all take part and recognize Tibet's loss as our own, the future looks grim.

WANTED CHEATER (KOINA MITRA) TRIES TO BECOME Jharkhand brand ambassador And creates problems for goverment

AS WE ALL KNOW
KOINA MITRA Tried to become he brand ambassador of Jharkhand
(what people forget is she is wanted in a cheating case in mumbai)
here are the details -
DO we want con jobs and cheaters holding the respect of jharkand

http://starzshowz.blogspot.com/2007/06/koena-mitra-item-girl-accused-of.html

Ranchi, Jan 12 (IANS) Barely two days after Bollywood actress Koena Mitra was appointed as the brand ambassador of Jharkhand by diaspora magazine Pravasi Today during the diaspora conclave in New Delhi, trouble is brewing in the state.

Chief Minister Madhu Koda refuted some local media reports Friday on his return to the capital that Koena was appointed as the brand ambassador of the state.

Koda clarified, "It was the Pravasi Today publication which roped in the actress to promote the state to non-resident Indians as an investment destination."

A section of the local media had hinted that the Jharkhand government had appointed the Bengali actress to promote "Brand Jharkhand" ignoring "local celebrities".

Bowing to pressure, the chief minister said he would appoint one-day international skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who is from state capital Ranchi, to promote the state.

Politicians, social workers and the people in the state want to know why Koena has been selected to endorse Brand Jharkhand when the state had "several high-profile representatives".

"Jharkhand had produced personalities in each field. One-day skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, actresses Tanushree Dutta and Priyanka Chopra, whose maternal grandfather lives in Jamshedpur, and hockey star like Sumrai Tete - any one of them could have been appointed to promote Jharkhand," said S. Rajnana, a social worker.

Koena Mitra had unveiled a Pravasi Today special issue devoted to Jharkhand, along with Koda and Deputy Chief Minister Sudhir Mahto in New Delhi Jan 10.

Former chief minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Arjun Munda fumed: "See the mental bankruptcy of the Madhu Koda government. This indicates the seriousness of the present government in developing the state. During my regime investors were flocking to sign memorandums of understanding (MoUs). And this government has failed to translate the MoUs into reality."
