Shilpa Shetty news

The second season of Bigg Boss is all set to go on air from August-end on the newly launched channel, Colors. The channel, we hear, has roped in Big Brother winner Shilpa Shetty to host the show!

Shilpa, who became a hot favourite in Britain after her Big Brother win, has replaced Arshad Warsi.

Media source said, “Shilpa has been signed on for a whopping Rs 8 crore by the production house. She is the first celeb to be finalised on the show while the participants are yet to be finalised.”

According to the source, it was not easy to get Shilpa to host the show after her brush with racial discrimination last year, and “she took her own time to decide if she wanted to be part of the show.”

The show is slated to go on air once Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi (hosted by Akshay Kumar) ends in August.

Confirming the news, Rajesh Kamat - CEO of Colors - said, “Yes, Bigg Boss - Season 2 is going to air on Colors.” However, he refused to comment on Shilpa being signed on as the host.

Bollywood event 'worth millions'

Amitabh Bachchan and Shilpa Shetty
Bachchan and Shetty launched the awards in Yorkshire
Tourism officials in Yorkshire say the Bollywood Oscars generated more than £20m ($40m) worth of media coverage for the county.

The Yorkshire Tourist Board said an estimated 500m viewers worldwide watched the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards in June.

Bollywood superstars including Amitabh Bachchan and Shilpa Shetty attended the awards, which were held in Sheffield.

Tourism officials said the awards put Yorkshire on the global map.

In a statement the region's tourist board said the media valuation had exceeded the US $40m across the UK.

Coverage included the event's launch in both London and Yorkshire along with curtain-raiser events.

More than 40 hours of television coverage across a range of outlets and articles in the national print media were taken into account.

David Andrews, chief executive of the Yorkshire Tourist Board, said: "IIFA presented huge economic opportunities for businesses in Yorkshire and gave Yorkshire the chance to showcase its tourism, culture, business, film locations and creative industries to an IIFA international audience."

Bollywood leads PETA elephant campaign

FOR A CAUSE: Celebrities have have signed PETA's petition urging chief ministers across the country to ban the entry of elephants into urban areas.

FOR A CAUSE: Celebrities have have signed PETA's petition urging chief ministers across the country to ban the entry of elephants into urban areas.

Mumbai: What do you get when you put celebrities including Dilip Kumar, Saira Banu, John Abraham and Raveena Tandon together with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals India (PETA)? A very loud statement of compassion for elephants who live in cities where they are forced to walk on scorching-hot, pothole-ridden roads in busy traffic amid a cacophony of horns and engines.

That's why many of the biggest celebrities in India including MP Priya Dutt, filmmakers Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Mahesh Bhatt and actors Isha Koppikar, Yana Gupta, Rahul Khanna, Celina Jaitley, Gulshan Grover and many others have signed PETA's petition urging chief ministers across the country to ban the entry of elephants into urban areas.

This petition is timed to mark the one-year anniversary of the death of elephant Lakshmi, who was killed by a truck last September. The government of Maharashtra has already banned the entry of elephants into Mumbai.

They commonly suffer from potentially deadly foot ailments, skin problems, eye infections and cataracts.

Why does life in the streets mean misery for elephants? They are prodded and hooked with sharp, metal ankuses that cause pain and suffering.

When they are not working, the elephants

Allowing elephants in crowded urban areas also poses a danger to the public. Frightened elephants have rampaged - killing mahouts and scattering crowds.

"We hope that other governments will emulate the progressive step of the government of Maharashtra - the petition should serve as a wake-up call", says PETA Chief Functionary Anuradha Sawhney.

Toronto woos 2009 Indian awards show

Veteran Indian movie star Amitabh Bachchan has been doing more at the Toronto International Film Festival than just promoting his new film, The Last Lear. The Bollywood icon is drumming up support for Toronto's bid for the 2009 International Indian Film Academy Awards.

"Toronto is a location that we haven't been to before and it has a large [South] Asian community," explains the actor.

The awards show - which will celebrate its ninth anniversary in 2009 - is a sought-after event, thanks to its reputation as a tourist attraction. When Yorkshire, England, hosted it this year, more than 30,000 visitors flooded the city to catch a glimpse of their favourite Bollywood stars.

Since IIFAA's 2000 debut at the Millennium Dome in London, the annual awards show has travelled to South Africa, Malaysia, Singapore, Amsterdam and Dubai.

New York, Cologne and Turin are rumoured to be vying for the 2009 awards. The show mixes an Academy Awards-style presentation with a stage concert featuring Bollywood's extravagant musical spectacles.

"IIFA ... has been taking Indian cinema outside Indian shores," says Mr. Bachchan, who plays an aging Shakespearean actor in his new movie, an art-house film in English that eschews Bollywood's song and dance.

Toronto marketing firm Ethnic Guru is spearheading the city's bid for what would be the event's North American debut. Co-founders Moe Jiwan and Davinder Gurm are now lobbying government representatives for the final push in the year-long process.

"Although the [Ontario] election may slow down the process from the government side, we are very close to achieving our goal," Mr. Gurm says. "We strongly feel that we have the support needed from the private sector."

According to IIFA director Andre Timmins, the decision will be made by February. "We consider the existing Indian population, exposure to [or] interest in Indian cinema, tourism initiatives [and] interest in the business of Indian cinema," he says in an e-mail.

Although many Indian movies have featured Canadian landscapes such as Niagara Falls and the Rocky Mountains, as well as Toronto and Vancouver cityscapes, he hopes that official discussions between the two countries will encourage more Bollywood productions in Canada.

RIP: Luciano Pavarotti

The world of music entertainment is mourning. Luciano Pavarotti has died.

The opera star and the world's most beloved tenors died Thursday morning September 6th at 5 a.m. local time, at his home in Modena, Italy, after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 71.

Pavarotti had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year and had cancer surgery at a New York hospital in July 2006. He underwent further treatment last month and had made no public appearances since then. Earlier Wednesday September 5th it was reported that his condition had taken a turn for the worse.

"The Maestro fought a long, tough battle against the pancreatic cancer which eventually took his life. In fitting with the approach that characterized his life and work, he remained positive until finally succumbing to the last stages of his illness," Pavarotti's manager, Terri Robson, told the Associated Press in a statement.

Pavarotti's last performance was that of "Nessun Dorma" at the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, in February 2006. His last full-scale concert was in Taipei in December 2005.

It was announced on Tuesday September 4th that Pavarotti is getting a new government award for his work promoting Italian culture in his country and abroad, making him the first to receive the award. "This prize fills me with joy and pride," the Italian news agency ANSA news agency quoted Pavarotti as saying Wednesday. No date has been set for the award ceremony though.

Aishwarya Bachchan to be featured at New York’s Madame Tussauds

A wax model of Aishwarya Bachchan will open to public view at the Madame Tussauds wax museum in Time Square, New York City, on August 15, when India celebrates its 60th year of independence. “The unveiling ceremony will feature a 15-minute performance by a Bollywood dance group from the city,” said Rosemary Preta, director of marketing of the museum.

The museum has scheduled the ceremony on India’s Independence Day, which was also demanded by her fans in the US, Preta said. Aishwarya’s model will be placed in the Opening Night Party section of the museum. The museum has borrowed the model for six weeks from the parent Madame Tussauds in London. The life-like sari-clad waxwork, unveiled in London in 2004, timed with the release of Aishwarya’s first international film, Bride and Prejudice, directed by London-based Gurinder Chadha.

Aishwarya was present at the London unveiling, but she will be unable to come to New York for this landmark event. Aishwarya has also had the most success from Indian actors making forays in Hollywood. Her big ticket Hollywood film is The Last Legion, in which she gets third billing after Colin Firth and Ben Kingsley. The epic look period film is releasing in the US on August 17. The only other Indian film personalities immortalised at Madame Tussauds in London are Ash’s father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, both from Bollywood, and Tamil superstar Rajnikant. Other Indian attractions at the museum are Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi. Now, Ash has beaten them all by becoming the first Indian to feature at the New York museum. The museum in Manhattan attracts a million visitors a year and has become a major tourist attraction in the city since its opening in 2000. Madame Tussauds commemorates the world’s most popular personalities by creating strikingly similar wax statues. Set up by Frenchwoman, Marie Tussauds, in London in 1835, the world famous museum now has branches in Amsterdam, Las Vegas, Hong Kong and Shanghai, besides New York, with Washington DC to be added to the list in October this year.

Who might be 22 Bond Girl from Bollywood

Bollywood Bond Girl Wondering who James Bond will be banging in Bond 22, the Daniel Craig starring followup to Casino Royale? Cinematical has picked up a story from Metro which says it could be infamous Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty.

If you recognize her name at all, it’s probably as the woman who nearly got Richard Gere thrown in prison. If you think the United States is sexually repressed, check out India. During a press conference Gere playfully kissed Shilpa on camera, and ended up being burned in effigy on Indian streets. Gere dodged jail time and obscenity charges, but just imagine what the Indian people do if James Bond gets his herpes infested hands on her. Daniel Craig may soon be Indian public enemy number one. Maybe they should just have Bond dance out his passion. No touchy!

32-year-old Shetty is apparently a huge star in Asia, and her handlers are desperate to translate her stardom over to the United States. Metro’s story claims she’s about to “seal the deal” to be a Bond girl, but it’s so early in the Bond 22 production process I find that a little hard to believe. Treat this as just a wild rumor for now.

Salman Khan is a cool dude,

jaaneman8.jpgIt looks like Salman Khan will never forgive Viveik Oberoi. After performing to the hit number Beedi Jalaile with Koena Mitra at the Rajiv Gandhi Awards function in Mumbai, Viveik turned towards Salman who was seated in the front row, folded his hands, then bowed in front of him grabbing his ears in forgiveness. Literally Kow towing to this guy. Salmon response: He shook his head and ignored Oberoi. Viveik also tried to get some love from Shilpa Shetty who was sitting next to Salmon but didn't anywhere with that either. This all started over a woman. Well not just any woman, Aishwarya Rai. In April 2003, Viveik used the media to launch a verbal tirade against Salman for allegedly making repeated abusive calls to Aishwarya Rai. Though Salmon never answered back everyone knows he was pissed. After Aishwarya dumped Viveik for Abhishek Bachchan two years ago, Viveik saw the light and tried to make peace. He even visitied visited Salman's ailing mother in hospital! But Salmon could care less when asked about Big Viveik, Sal responds, " Viveik who?"him. Viveik alleged that Salman was insecure of Viveik's relationship with with Aishwarya Rai. Though Salman never answered back everyone knows he was pissed. After Aishwarya dumped Viveik for Abhishek Bachchan two years ago, Viveik saw the light and tried to make peace. He even visitied visited Salman's ailing mother in hospital! Lips dont lie koena mitra

Lips don’t lie! -nor do pics

Why was Koena Mitra housebound some time back? Was
it a case of lip surgery gone wrong?(or to much head)

Looking good comes with a
price! We've heard that Koena
Mitra was housebound
until a few days ago, after a
recent lip job(what job) went terribly wrong.
She went through a silicone implant
surgery, but the result was a
far cry from what she had expected.
The actress now intends to get
a correction surgery done to get
rid of her swollen lips.
Says a source close to the actress,
"She got a lip job done about
10 days ago but the result is far
from pretty. She has almost locked
up herself in the house and doesn't
want to meet anyone."Close
friends of the actress inform that
she has been craving for a perfect
pout. After having consulted a few
high profile cosmetic surgeons in
the city, she decided to get lip implants
done, instead of collagen
injections.
The procedure was painful and
expensive. With the not-sofavourable
results she will have to
go under the knife very soon and
bear the pain again. A reliable
source says, "She used to complain
about her thin lips. But her lips are
completely swollen now."When
quizzed about it, the actress refused
to come clean. She denied
having got any surgery done. She
said, "I have not got any lip surgery
done."
The actress has been mired in
similar controversies before. Her
fellow colleagues have alleged that
she has had other cosmetic surgeries
done including a rhinoplasty.
A reliable source says, "She
has definitely worked on her nose.
She is very careful when her make
up artist applies make-up on her,

Sexual favors in Bollywood !

Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam in 'casting couch' sex scandal
Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam in 'casting couch' sex scandal
If rumors have even a little bit of the credibility factor in them, then it wouldn't be wrong to state that more than half of our Hindi Film Industry is involved in what we call - "immoral acts", going by the society norms. Be it extra-marital affairs, underworld connections, monetary cheating and last but not the least, the most controversial sin of all, "the casting couch".

From the bottom most pit to the high-handed actresses have been linked to this tainted term; performing sexual favors for those who "matter" in the industry and in some cases, innocent souls turned into Bollywood prostitutes just so they could hear the famous words, "Lights, Camera and Action".

However for long there was this perceived notion that only women are subjected to the matters of casting couch and this could be in Bollywood, Fashion Industry or the Television Industry. But over the years, the number of cases concerning male casting couch have also been over-whelming.

The very recent one (which did manage to make to our daily-tabloids) being popular Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam accusing renowned Film Critic, Mr. Subhash K. Jha of holding a personal vendetta against him just because he refused his sexual advances. In his retaliation to Jha's article "It's a nosy affair" in Times of India, where the accused in many words hinted the singer to not whine over his nasal rival aka. Himesh Reshammiya's mass-popularity, the not-so-happy Sonu Nigam decided to set the record straight.

Let me spill the beans open for you. I've kept quiet for too long just hoping that his conscience will overcome his vengeance for me.

It's not a secret in the industry that he is a homosexual. God bless him for homosexuals are normal people with just different sexual preferences, just like men lusting for women is not a taboo. But a man punishing a woman for not complying with his sexual advancement is an issue right? So why isn't a man imposing upon another man an issue? Isn't this a free world?

Am I supposed to reciprocate to something that I am not interested in? And do I have to be subjected to this kind of DADAGIRI for no fault of mine? He further goes on to state his justified reasons. What is my fault in this? No one is obligated to interact with people who make one feel uncomfortable! And especially when someone would constantly talk either negative, or suggestive! I am not just an artiste but also a reader of your newspaper from the time I gained consciousness to this world. I demand you to treat me like a common man. I am not alone in this world; I have a close knit family, friends and admirers who feel deeply hurt when this kind of unaccountable bashing is inflicted upon me. I want to be left alone. I don't want to be subjected to this strange kind of sexual assault where all that I did like a phenomenon some time back has become something so hateworthy for this sick man.

Now if you ask me, I think by outing Mr. Jha's alleged scheming tactics (if one goes by the letter's every word) Sonu did the right thing. If the so-called film critics have the official license to rip apart anything and everything concerning the Film Industry, I believe everyone else, even those remotely involved have the very same rights to justify or defend their intentions (even if it means getting "personal"). Agreed, for many Sonu Nigam may appear to be jealous of His Himeshness's stardom, be it as a singer or an actor. But tell me something wouldn't you be pissed off as well on watching your competitor raking-in recognition, not out of talent but simply out of the mass absurdity - frankly speaking, I am and I am not even a bathroom singer.

A good friend, who doesn't agree on Sonu's approach, however raises a valid point.

For all their talk of "industry" and it's ills, Jha - a journalist who's only connected peripherally to said industry, with very limited power over the careers of upcoming actors/singers - remains the only one to be directly named. If we're having an indepth examination of people in the film industry taking advantage of male newcomers, then why not start talking about people who actually make the movies? Producers, directors, financiers, actors, actresses.

Seriously one wonders if Sonu Nigam would have done the same had it been a popular director or a honcho from a powerful production house. But then again, this is Bollywood we are talking about - here friends become enemies in no time and enemies best friends even quicker; don't you remember the Anu Malik and Alisha Chenia episode.

Male model accuses Bobby Darling of sexual abuse, bollywood

Male model accuses Bobby Darling of sexual abuse

CNN-IBN
OH BOY! Bobby Darling has been accused of sexually harassing a model named Surjit Jagdish Singh.

New Delhi: Just days after singer Sonu Nigam accused a film journalist of sexual harassment, similar allegations have been levelled against Pankaj Sharma, better known as Bollywood's Bobby Darling, by a male model.

Bobby has been accused of sexually harassing a model named Surjit Jagdish Singh.

Singh has alleged that Bobby promised him modelling assignments in return of sexual favours, and on refusal threatened to boycott Singh in the television and Hindi film industry.

“Bobby Darling has told me that she would never let me come up in the industry. She also told me that she would not let me work anywhere and even if I get an opportunity she will make sure that I am out of the project soon,” Singh said.

A case has been registered against Bobby in Mumbai's Oshiwara police station under Sections 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.

Bobby, in fact, has been in the news for all the wrong reasons off late. Last month, television actress Dolly Bindra alleged that Bobby had conspired against her in a case of cheating with actor Koena Mitra.

According to Bindra, she had approached Koena with a role in her film. After the initial talks, Bindra gave Rs 5 lakh as a token amount to Koena in November. But later, Koena refused to work in her film and avoided her phone calls.

According to Bindra Koena was misguided by Bobby and director Alok Shrivastava.

Bobby who played herself in filmmaker Santosh Sivan's National Award winning film Navarasa was conferred with the best supporting actor award at the Monaco International Film Festival last year.
